Okay, I'm sorry if this is in another thread but I've searched high & low but I can't find my particular problem. So here it goes.
I have my computer(running xp pro), xbox(running xbmc), and my xbox 360 connected through a router. My comp has two HD's. I have no problem sharing files between my xbox & my second HD. My problem is when I try to access files on my main HD, xbox keeps asking me for a username & password. I don't have any passwords except for when I ftp into my xbox. I've tried the login & password from that (xbox, xbox) but no luck. Any help out there for a newbie such as myself? Need any more info? Thanks in advance.Well, I figured it out. With your help. I initially had my whole c drive oharing on. For some reason it wouldn't let me share that way. So what I did was remove that share and just shared the folders that I wanted seperately, eg: My Music, My Videos, etc. Thanks for all your help. Hope this may help others as well.since on the same computer you have shares that you CAN access, that helps prove that like 99% of the stuff is working right. Sometimes Windows does dumb stuff when keeping track of shared files. One of the basic things people usually try is to unshare whatever is shared on the first (non-working) drive, and then re-share the folder(s). XP Pro has the ability to have some shares be password protected, but only if you have the advaned file sharing stuff turned on. If you turn that stuff off (i.e. "use simple file sharing") then you get anonymous (no username/pass) access to all the shares.I'm also assuming that you can SEE the drives from your XBMC.
You might try making sure that your network is named correctly. If I recall, the default on XBMC is WORKGROUP and the default for most windows installs is MSHOME. You probably have to make sure they are the same.Well, I figured it out. With your help. I initially had my whole c drive sharing turned on. For some reason it wouldn't let me share that way.
