How old was your baby when you started swimming lessons? Do you recommend infant lessons?
All my older children learned to swim as infants. Well, learned water awareness and water confidence. They couldn't actually swim properly without any floatation help until a few years later.
My youngest is about to start, he is 7 months old.
I'd recommend it though.
you got to start them quite young about 6 or 7 i started mine when he was 6 and he's a brilliant world swim racer now
I have a 2 and a half year old daughter and she started swimming lessons at 2 so I think it is great for them to start to learn early!
A baby can go swimming from 6 weeks though it has to be 30degrees or warmer. I wouldnt recommend it aat a public pool unless you can find a very quiet time. Before you think about lessons, just let baby enjoy being in the water with you. You can start just by holding them and talking or singing to them in the water, and then gradually get more animated each time you go, splashing etc. Once baby is confident with you in the water you can think about lessons if you want to.
I did Mommy & Me swim classes at our local YMCA when she was 3 months old (you can start at 3 months so it was perfect). asked the pediatrician what she thought and she said it was fine but to make sure we bathe her right away afterwards to get all the chlorine off. We did two 5 wk sessions and she did great!
