I have already posted another question about how i can clean up space. I did everything i was told and now I'm wondering. I have a total of 174 Gig of hard drive space. I'm running vista with most unneeded programs deleted and only guild wars and half life 2 death match on it. How much free space should it have on the disk, just to see if i did everything right, i am currently keeping it above 140 gig by running a disk cleanup every night. Any ideas? You don't need very much freespace at all to have a happily running computer. WinXP required somewhere around 500mb's, might be more for Vista, but I doubt it would be too much more.. I found a sweet program that cleaned up my comp and it's free, check it out if your interested.
It's especially useful if you do a lot of photo editing in .raw format.. my wife is a photographer and her laptop was running out of space. I ran ccleaner and it cleared 30gigs! It would appear photoshop doesn't delete the temp files when editing .raw photos... 14 empty spaces is the regulated minimum.140 gigs is a lot of space i would'nt worrie about saving space at this time-- when a hard drive becomes about half way filled then you may start to have problems with slowing down a little -- even then it just depends on whats running -- i usually run disk cleanup once a month or so -- and i run quite a few different programs all the time --ima big time multitasker lol hope this helps you Your computer should have a minimum of 14 empty spaces. Looks like you're fine.10GB is more than enough, as long as you don't download a lot. You just need room for the swap file, and any restore points you'll be saving. Plus anything you want to save, like downloads, documents, etc. But Vista will run with only a few GB free.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
